Our Progress

Our Factories

Our Factories

In Derbyshire, in the Midlands, once the UK center manufacturing, you will find Artistic, family run since 1952, and now part of ours.

Taking inspiration from a joint cultural heritage of English furniture-making whilst combining today’s needs and style, we work with Artistic to create our beautiful bespoke furniture. In 1998 they were awarded the coveted Production Guild Mark by the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers, so as you can see, it’s only the very best for those who shop with House of Hackney.

“My father made sure that everything was done properly and it was very important that we carry on that tradition.” - James Mitchell, Owner

Our Impact

Our Impact

Since the day our House was built, a sense of compassion for people and planet has served as the foundation of everything we do. House of Hackney is evolving from a B Corp sustainable brand to a regenerative one. This means doing things differently to bring about social and economic change, promoting the restoration of Nature. It means going beyond simply ‘sustaining’ and instead, actively making things better.

Our ambition is to create products that honour Future Generations. We are doing this by evolving our supply chain to source regenerative cotton directly from farmers, exploring wood fibre free wallpaper innovations and substituting fossil fuel derived ingredients in our paint for plant based alternatives. That’s just our main categories. We embrace opportunities to champion and trial material innovations such as mycelium and microbes in all products and packaging.

Nature, Our Director

Nature, Our Director

As a business rooted in the beauty of the natural world, we believe it's imperative we hold ourselves to account for our impact on Nature and the quality of life we leave behind for the generations to come.

In 2023, we gave Mother Nature and Future Generations legal personhood on our board, as a director. This means a person, independent of our business, ensures that in every decision made across all departments, our impact on Nature (including human wellbeing) is considered. They actively challenge our work and progress to becoming a Nature-centered business. Read more about how the director works here.

Our Products & Materials

Our Products & Materials

At House of Hackney, we’re all about making changes to protect the natural world and we are always seeking out ways to evolve our business that work more in harmony with Mother Nature. A big part of that is questioning the materials we use; are they the best available and can we do better?

To honor our commitment to Canopy, we are working to ensure no Ancient and Endangered forest fibres will be used in our products, packaging and paper supply chains by 2025. This includes guaranteeing the origin of wood used in our furniture.

We are also trialling wool pads instead of polyurethane in select pieces of furniture, sourced from WoolkeepersⓇ collective, traceable woolgrowers in the UK.
