OUR MATERIALS
Nature is an eternal source of inspiration for House of Hackney; taking the role of both muse and mentor.
We have often been considered a “sustainable” brand… but now we are on a journey to becoming a measurably regenerative one. This means going beyond simply sustaining our planet, and instead, actively making things better. And our materials are a big part of this.
Most of our products are made-to-order, to reduce waste. We use FSC-certified, purposely grown trees for our wallpaper and furniture, organically grown cotton and recycled materials in many of our fabrics and responsibly sourced, traceable wool. We use the best materials and production methods available to us, and are always seeking ways to do better. From natural mycelium products and sustainable cork to exploring how regenrative farming can be integrated into our supply chain, we are committed to evolving our products and pioneering a new way of business to support the thriving of all life on Earth, now, and for the future.
WALLPAPER
There is a world of imagination in our collection of wallpapers. Designed in-house with references to the natural world, our design hero William Morris,
British pattern archives and days gone by, we have a print for every taste.
Enter a wonderland of fantastical florals; get lost in the forest with foliage print murals; take a walk on the wild side with animal prints and journey to mythical lands with whimsical wonders.
Printed in full saturation and vivid detail, every roll of our wallpaper is crafted by the renowned Borås Tapetfabrik. This factory source paper made from wood fibre from young trees, not ancient ones, grown purposefully in a forest managed to the Forest Stewardship Council’s standards in Northern Europe. This means that it preserves biological diversity and benefits the lives of local people and workers, while ensuring it sustains economic viability.
All of our wallcoverings are PVC-free and digitally printed with environmentally safe inks in small, made-to-order batches to avoid unnecessary waste.
Last year, we used a total of 115 trees to create all of our wallpaper, and protected over 320 acres of Ancient and Endangered Forests through our partnership with the World Land Trust. It’s important for us to preserve and restore more forest land than we use.
We have also introduced innovative cork wallpaper to our range. With high visual impact and a natural aesthetic, the cork in our wallpapers is crafted from trees that don’t need to be felled, supporting our network of farmers in Portugal and the local ecology. In our best-selling prints and bespoke designs, they look beautiful, enhance insulation and celebrate the wonder of the natural world.
We’re also working to introduce regenerative forestry practices into our wallpaper supply chain. Our big vision is to source all of our wallpaper from regeratively managed forests.
FABRIC
From woven wildflowers and beautiful botanics to animal motifs and contemporary reinterpretations of classic designs, House of Hackney has a print for all. Woven from the highest quality materials and printed in Suffolk, England, our sumptuous organic velvets, cool cotton linens and recycled performance fabrics are perfect for curtains, blinds and upholstery, bringing a touch of irreverent style to any space.
Our long-term goal is to switch all of our cotton fibre from BCI Cotton to regeneratively-farmed fibres sourced directly from those farms by 2028.
HEAVENLY HEMP
Why is our hemp so heavenly?
Sumptuous, soft and utterly divine, our 100% HEAVENLY HEMP fabric proves natural fibres can be unnaturally chic.
Known as the "miracle plant", hemp is grown with little water and no chemical fertilisers or pesticides, is carbon negative, improves biodiversity and regenerates soil by removing toxins. An agricultural angel in disguise.
House of Hackney’s Heavenly Hemp fabric has a slightly textured, rich surface, similar to pure linen, and is woven to bring out the softness and beauty of the fibre, offering a more sophisticated look than the hemps of yesterday.
With an earthy colour-palette of Nature’s neutrals and rich, russet-orange, forest green and soft blush pink, our hemp blends seamlessly with natural materials like wood, stone and glass, adding warmth and depth to any space.
ORGANIC VELVET
In anticipation of creating a regeneratively-farmed product, which is our long-term goal, we created organic options for our best selling cotton velvets.
100% organic, 100% beautiful, our sumptuous velvet is made from pure organic cotton.Grown without synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, organic farming leads to healthier soil and water, reduced pollution, and a smaller carbon footprint.
COTTON-LINEN
Our cool, crisp, beautifully patterned cotton-linen fabrics are made with a blend of organic and recycled cotton, and linen.
RECYCLED PERFORMANCE FABRIC
In some of our best selling designs, our performance fabric is made from 85% recycled polyester, perfect for adding a touch of character to outside spaces, pet-proof interiors and high-traffic areas.
WOOL
Plumping each House of Hackney cushion is a sumptuous filler made from 25% regeneratively grown wool and 75% wool fibres made in partnership with The Woolkeepers®: a united supply chain that offers brands and farmers a better way to work with British wool through transparency and collaboration.
The wool we use has full traceability back to farm source. It comes with social and environmental assurances as to how farmers care for their flocks, the land they are reared on and the farmer’s livelihoods with a vision to collectively nurture land transformation and use wool as a tool to slow climate change.

PAINT
Our vibrant approach to colour has always been rooted in Nature’s tonal harmony. From verdant greens and earthy neutrals to hues derived from petals, plants and minerals, each colour has been artfully created to bring the beauty of the outside in. And the tin it’s in? It’s a work of art in itself.
Crafted at the historic Bailey Paints in Gloucestershire, England, each tin of House of Hackney paint is made to order.
With the team at Bailey Paints, we have been developing a new bio-binder to replace the acrylic binder in our current paint, something we plan to release in 2026.
With unrivalled, nuanced tones and trade-quality performance, it’s never been easier to create the scheme of your dreams. Each shade of our low VOC, water-based paint offers depth and pigment intensity for a truly exceptional colour payoff, with just 2 coats needed for full saturation and a chalky matte finish for a timeless aesthetic. Honouring Nature’s clever use of resources, the collection has end-to-end recyclable packaging, including a complimentary FSC-approved stirrer crafted from by-products and contains no animal derived products, nor is it tested on animals.
Available in Matte Emulsion for walls and ceilings, and wipeable Eggshell for woodwork or high-traffic areas. The Art of Nature paint collection comes in 5L, 2.5L, 125ML and swatches.
TILES
Our wall tiles are crafted by world renowned ceramic tile makers, Craven Dunnill Jackfield. Creators of heritage tiles for illustrious buildings from the Palace of Westminster to Harrods Food Hall and the iconic London Underground, these legacy tiles are made by hand in the oldest surviving tile factory in the world, nestled in the heart of the English countryside.
The collection of earthenware tiles are hand-made nineteenth century reproductions, encompassing Britain’s long history of decorative crafts. They are a celebration of traditional craftsmanship and our eternal muse, Mother Nature.
MYCELIUM
In 2023 we launched our first mycelium products. Mycelium is a groundbreaking 100% biodegradable material made from fungi fibres. Formed from a network of tiny fungal threads called hyphae, mycelium is a strong material that can be grown into specific forms, reducing processing requirements, the reliance on fossil fuels to power the processing and the waste.
Complete materials are grown with these mushroom fibres to create our Mycelium Ceiling Rose and holiday decorations, which, at the end of their life, can biodegrade to become nutrition for the soil. How’s that for a magic mushroom?
