Color drenching but make it House of Hackney…
It’s no secret that Nature is our design muse at House of Hackney, and we’ve never shied away from maximalist interiors, so we think pattern drenching (or Nature drenching in our House) is the perfect way to bring the beauty of the outside into your home.
From wallpaper to fabric, paint to accessories, everything we create is inspired by the world around us, and designed to work in harmony with each other, making pattern drenching an effortless way to bring depth, character, and the wonder of the natural world into your interiors.
Whether you prefer bright, feminine florals, heritage patterns or monochromatic neutral animal prints, here’s our guide on how to create your own Nature drenched haven.

WHAT IS PATTERN DRENCHING?
WHAT IS PATTERN DRENCHING?
Pattern drenching (or print drenching) is a maximalist aesthetic created by layering pattern upon pattern. Similar to the popular trend of colour drenching, it’s using the same print across walls, fabric and furnishings to create a seamless finish. While it may sound overwhelming, using one print across everything actually creates cohesion in a space and brings everything together in harmony.
THE BEST SPACES FOR NATURE DRENCHING
Pattern drenching can work in any space. A great place to start if you’re nervous of a big change or experimenting with maximalism for the first time is a bathroom or powder room. Rather than shying away from bold print and colour in small spaces as one might expect, diminutive rooms can really carry a statement well, and you can create a big impact with little effort.
Using wall-to-wall print in a communal, entertaining space like a living room or dining room can add a sense of luxury and opulence.
If you’re seeking a place to rest and retreat, print drenching a bedroom can create a cocooning, grounding effect that supports relaxation. It has also been proven that the wellness benefits of biophilia (our connection to the natural world) extend to imagery of Nature, so by using a House print, you’ve got that covered!

CHOOSING THE RIGHT PRINT
We always say start with the heart in our House. When choosing a print for your project, go with what you are drawn to when ordering samples (and maybe throw in a wild card or two). Once you have your samples, hang in your space for a couple of days and see which you prefer.
Another thing to consider, aside from pattern and color, is how the scale of the pattern can impact a space; smaller prints add detail while larger scale designs make a bolder statement.

HOW TO GET THE LOOK IN YOUR HOME
Ready to take your interiors to the next level? The simplest way to incorporate pattern drenching in a space is with wall-to-wall print, courtesy of wallpaper. We’d even paper the fifth wall (the ceiling) for a truly immersive effect.
Furniture, soft furnishings and accessories are the key to elevating the print-on-print look. Using a fabric that matches your chosen wallpaper, upholster sofas, chairs or headboards for added depth, include matching drapery with coordinating drapes and finish with pillows, lampshades and even flooring.
TIPS FOR ACHIEVING A HARMONIOUS LOOK
From our Housemate Chloe
1. It is important to consider the balance of scale, color and texture.
2. Have a consistent color palette running through the scheme.
3. When building a scheme here at House of Hackney we split our prints into three categories; Florals & Foliage, and Animal Print. We find that adorning your walls in large blooms or woodland scenes is the perfect way to invite Mother Nature into your home and creates the perfect nurturing environment. Then look at stripes or carpet prints for your drapery as this creates that breath, a visual break and also adds an element of fun to any scheme. Grounded in the butterscotch hues, our WILD CARD is the perfect addition to any scheme and is a great choice for transitional spaces. Available in fabric, wallpaper and our sumptuous axminster collection, this is a great example of using earth tones as building blocks for creating a harmonious scheme.
