Here's a runner that brings new meaning to the phrase history in the making. While its Art Nouveau motif, BLACKTHORN part of our collaboration with the William Morris Gallery dates back to 1892, this design is woven from sumptuous British wool by Axminster Carpets, creators of the worlds finest floor coverings since 1755. Yet despite all this (and the fact its made to last for decades to come), this piece is thoroughly modern, thanks to its statement shade of Petrol and slyly gothic undertones (note the skull lurking amongst the symmetrical blooms). For expert advice on runners (including taking measurements and finding a professional fitter), please feel free to contact us. Each item sold enables House of Hackney to purchase and protect 35 square metres of forest, thanks to our partnership with the World Land Trust the international conservation charity that safeguards our most vital natural ecosystems and threatened habitats, acre by acre.

Our Progress

Our Factories

Our Factories

We are proud to work with Britain’s oldest, best known and most prestigious carpet designer and manufacturer to create our flooring.

Axminster Carpets has been synonymous with carpet luxury and craftsmanship for over 250 years. Based in Devon, Axminster have been expertly weaving since 1755. Sharing our passion for sustainability, traditional craft and colour, the design house uses responsibly sourced British wool to create their unique ‘eight pitch Axminster’ weave, fitting in more wool per square inch, which, like a high definition TV, allows more pattern and colour, and results in a better quality carpet.

Our Impact

Our Impact

Since the day our House was built, a sense of compassion for people and planet has served as the foundation of everything we do. House of Hackney is evolving from a B Corp sustainable brand to a regenerative one. This means doing things differently to bring about social and economic change, promoting the restoration of Nature. It means going beyond simply ‘sustaining’ and instead, actively making things better.

Our ambition is to create products that honor Future Generations. We are doing this by evolving our supply chain to source regenerative cotton directly from farmers, exploring wood fibre free wallpaper innovations and substituting fossil fuel derived ingredients in our paint for plant based alternatives. That’s just our main categories. We embrace opportunities to champion and trial material innovations such as mycelium and microbes in all products and packaging.

Nature, Our Director

Nature, Our Director

As a business rooted in the beauty of the natural world, we believe it's imperative we hold ourselves to account for our impact on Nature and the quality of life we leave behind for the generations to come.

In 2023, we gave Mother Nature and Future Generations legal personhood on our board, as a director. This means a person, independent of our business, ensures that in every decision made across all departments, our impact on Nature (including human wellbeing) is considered. They actively challenge our work and progress to becoming a Nature-centered business. Read more about how the director works here.

Our Products & Materials

At House of Hackney, we’re all about making changes to protect the natural world and we are always seeking out ways to evolve our business that work more in harmony with Mother Nature. A big part of that is questioning the materials we use; are they the best available and can we do better?

Our carpets, rugs and runners are woven in England and made from British, New Zealand and Scandinavian wool with a jute and cotton backing. Read more about our materials and suppliers here.
