STEP 1: Measure the room
Before placing your order, be sure to map out the space where you would like the furniture to sit by laying masking tape or newspaper, corresponding to the design’s widest dimensions, onto the floor. You can find the dimensions of each House of Hackney piece under the ‘Product Details’ section of the individual product pages on our website. TIP: It’s a smart move to leave a little wiggle room either side of your chair or sofa, so that it doesn’t have to be wedged into place. Ideally, you want enough of a gap to walk around the piece – or nestle a side table or lamp next to it if desired.
STEP 2: Measure your home
Next, taking into account the height (H), width (W) and depth (D) of your chosen furniture, you will need to measure your home to ensure the piece can comfortably reach the room in which it will live – so think about the doorways, hallways and stairwells it will need to pass through to get there.

Our Progress

Our Factories
Our jacquard fabrics are made by David Walters Fabrics in Suffolk, England. A tenth generation family business with almost 300 years of weaving experience, sustainability is embedded into their business and culture, covering environmental protection, social responsibility and a commitment to more innovative production methods.
Renowned for its impressive heritage of textile printing, Standfast & Barracks are at the forefront of an exciting new era in digital fabric. They have been printing our fabrics since House of Hackney was started in 2011 and aside from their unparalleled quality, they are deeply committed to sustainability .
An independent family owned business, Fasac S.p.a. prints our organic cotton fabrics in Milan, Italy. Fasac take a people centred approach to their work and are committed to ensuring that we reduce the environmental impact in every production process, starting from the selection of raw materials up to the delivery of the printed textiles.

Our Impact
We know how much we pay our factories to bring our designs to life does not include the extractive impact production has on Nature, including human wellbeing.
To understand the amount we should pay for our products, including the social and environmental expense, we engaged the organisation True Price to help us measure it.
Starting with our two biggest product categories, fabric and wallpaper, we gathered impact data and applied the True Cost methodology. This helped us to quantify the price we should pay for our products, taking their impact into account.
Our first True Cost analysis results showed that for every square metre of velvet fabric, we should be paying 2.76GBP/3.58USD extra to make up for the social and environmental impact creating it.
We will use these results to help highlight our impact hotspots and set targets for future product improvements, with the aim of reducing our “true cost”. Read more here.

Nature, Our Director
As a business rooted in the beauty of the natural world, we believe it's imperative we hold ourselves to account for our impact on Nature and the quality of life we leave behind for the generations to come.
In 2023, we gave Mother Nature and Future Generations legal personhood on our board, as a director. This means a person, independent of our business, ensures that in every decision made across all departments, our impact on Nature (including human wellbeing) is considered. They actively challenge our work and progress to becoming a Nature-centered business. Read more about how the director works here.

Our Products & Materials
We use a variety of raw materials in our fabrics including cotton, viscose and polyester and push for 100% traceability to the country of origin at a minimum so we can understand where our materials are coming from.
Cotton is the main raw material in our fabrics. Currently the majority of our cotton is sourced from Better Cotton members. As we understand the challenges with Better Cotton and certification systems generally, we are exploring sourcing regeneratively grown cotton fibre directly from farmers as a way to transform cotton trade for good.
Our commitment to Canopy Style and Canopy Pack4Good means we will ensure no Ancient and Endangered forest fibres will be used in our products, packaging and paper supply chains by 2025. That means all wood based textile fibres including viscose, will be FSC certified and/or from recycled sources or overall be replaced by a wood-fibre free material innovation. Read more here.
